2. The Cataclysm and its consequences for the world
When World of Warcraft Cataclysm started, it was a major world-altering event – literally. Deathwing flew across the entire world and destroyed it in many places. Stormwind was partially devastated, the Darkshore was destroyed, the dam of Loch Modan broke, and so on. Almost all areas of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms bear distinct signs of the “Cataclysm”.
In the history of Warcraft, this was a great event that essentially devastated the entire world.
Well, almost.
In good old World of Warcraft fashion, new areas appear with new expansions. So islands and continents that have always been part of Azeroth historically but only came into the game with the corresponding expansion.
And that’s exactly where the problem lies. Because although Deathwing actually caused chaos across the entire world, this news has hardly reached all the “new” areas.
That Northrend is left out – that’s forgivable. That was old content, trapped in the time of Wrath of the Lich King.
While it can still be said for Pandaria that the island was shrouded in mists and perhaps remained “hidden,” this was not the case for other areas.
Kul Tiras and Zandalar essentially remained untouched by the Cataclysm, and there is no indication that the enormous dragon had any impact on these areas.
Especially for one of the largest empires in the game world, the troll empire of the Zandalari, it seems very strange that Deathwing would have bypassed it – and that absolutely nothing there reminds us that a gigantic dragon once wanted to annihilate the mortal races of Azeroth. One would think that he wouldn’t just neglect the massive troll empire.
The same applies to the Broken Islands. For example, there stood a World Tree that had somehow been ignored by all evil forces and that Deathwing didn’t find as bothersome as the one in Hyjal…
