Place 6: Bandobras Took
Bandobras Took was a legendary Hobbit who lived about 300 years before the events of The Lord of the Rings. He is what would probably be considered a war hero among Hobbits.
Bandobras was significantly larger than most Halflings and could supposedly even ride a horse. When the Shire was threatened by Orcs, he led an army into battle for defense. The so-called “Battle of Greenfields” was the first battle ever fought within the Shire.
Indeed, Bandobras and his men managed to drive the intruders away. According to legend, the great Hobbit once beheaded the Orc chief Golfimbul, causing him to fly 100 feet away and land in a rabbit hole. According to Gandalf, this is how golf was invented.
We don’t really know if these stories are true in the end. However, should they be, Bandobras Took was certainly one of the strongest and most warlike Hobbits of all time.
