The Hobbits from The Lord of the Rings are an exceptionally cozy folk. They don’t really have much desire for grand adventures and dangers. However, there is more to them than meets the eye. In the ranking, we are looking for the 10 strongest Hobbits who can really indulge during second breakfast.
What was the ranking based on? With their small stature and preference for numerous hearty meals, Hobbits are not exactly born fighting machines. However, we evaluate a character’s “strength” not only based on physical power. Factors such as courage, endurance, determination, and influence on the history of Middle-earth have also been taken into account in the ranking.
In Peter Jackson’s films, many Hobbits only play minor roles. To give the lesser-known small heroes a chance, we also refer to the books. Especially the invasion of the Shire by Saruman was completely omitted in the films. So don’t be surprised if some events seem unfamiliar to you.
Place 10: Tolman Cotton
Tolman “Tom” Cotton is one of the quieter heroes in the “Lord of the Rings” universe. The old farmer was the father of Rosie, Sam’s future wife. He doesn’t appear in the film, but in the books, he plays an important role in the liberation of the Shire.
When Frodo and his companions return from their long journey, they find their home occupied by Saruman’s henchmen. Many Hobbits have resigned themselves to their fate – but not Tom Cotton. Together with his sons, he organizes a resistance against the intruders. In the “Battle of Bywater,” he fought alongside the four companions and other brave Hobbits.
Although Tom Cotton was not a great adventurer, sometimes it is enough to have the courage to defend one’s home. This is why Farmer Tom secures the last place in this ranking.
