Rank 6: Dettlaff van der Eretein
Dettlaff van der Eretein is a so-called higher vampire. This is the most powerful subspecies of vampires and also the most powerful monster type from The Witcher 3. Although they can be classified as monsters, higher vampires are more human than beast. They are very intelligent and often live in cities, where they are not easily identifiable, even with a witcher’s medallion.
If they are ever discovered, higher vampires can easily take on witchers or mages in battle. They are extremely fast, strong, have superhuman senses, can become invisible, shapeshift, and are nearly immortal.
Each higher vampire also has a special talent. In Dettlaff’s case, it is the ability to control and subjugate lesser vampires. This makes him a particularly great danger, as we see in the expansion Blood and Wine of The Witcher 3. Geralt ultimately manages to stop Dettlaff only because he received help from another higher vampire.
