Place 5: Jujutsu Kaisen
- Number of episodes: 47
- Budget per episode: 143,000 euros per episode
Why did the anime cost so much? Jujutsu Kaisen has managed to become one of the most popular anime series in a very short time. Especially in the second season, particularly in the Shibuya Incident Arc, the action-packed fights and effects increase to such an extent that we can well imagine why the budget for the anime is so high.
In terms of budget, this anime is on par with place 4 on this list. However, since Jujutsu Kaisen doesn’t have as many episodes yet, it lands in 5th place. But we can imagine that the upcoming episodes will also be grandly animated.
Place 4: Attack on Titan
- Number of episodes: 94
- Budget per episode: 143,000 euros per episode
Why did the anime cost so much? In Attack on Titan, Eren Yeager and the Survey Corps fight against giant Titans. They rely on their 3D maneuver gear and engage in aerial battles. The fluid animations in the air battles must have cost quite a bit – both in time and money.
Especially the big finale must have been expensive once again. There was a specific scene for which the manga artist apologized because it was difficult to draw. However, there are many other scenes, like the soldiers’ sacrifices, that fans remember because they were so spectacular.
Place 3: Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War
- Number of episodes: 35
- Budget per episode: 153,000 euros per episode
Around 10 years after the end of Bleach, Thousand-Year Blood War took the stage as a direct successor. Over the years, the technology has improved so much that TYBW surpasses its predecessor in terms of animation.
The new anime is especially known for its dark atmosphere, liters of blood, and intense action. It’s no surprise that Thousand-Year Blood War cost a lot, despite having “only” 35 episodes so far.
