The creator of One Piece revealed why the main character of his manga annoyed him the most and explained why.
The One Piece fan and translator Sandman published a statement on X.com on January 28, 2024, quoting an old interview with the creator of the manga, Eiichiro Oda, from 2012.
In it, the father of One Piece revealed that Luffy annoys him the most of all his characters when writing and also elaborated on why.

“I have to slow him down with obstacles”
“Luffy annoys me the most,” said Eiichiro Oda about the Straw Hat pirate. The reason: “I have to slow him down with obstacles; otherwise, he quickly defeats the villain.”
Thus, the protagonist is simply too strong for the story, and the manga artist constantly has to come up with strategies to prevent Luffy from solving all the problems in no time.
At the same time, Eiichiro Oda also had a completely different problem while writing. The characters must also continue to act according to their characteristics, as otherwise, the fans would notice negatively:
“My characters act as if they have a will of their own. If I force them to bend for the sake of the story, my audience complains.”
