Riot Games has talked about the future of their games in a video. For Teamfight Tactics, they announced three major new features, including the new sets, tournaments, and a special Turbo Mode.
What’s next for TFT in 2021? In January, Teamfight Tactics will receive the Mid-Season Update Set 4.5. More than 20 new champions and some new attributes will be introduced.
However, Riot plans several new sets for this year, rotating approximately once per quarter:
- The Set 5 is expected to be released in spring
- In summer, there will be a Mid-Season Update for Set 5.5
- Set 6 is expected to be released in autumn
Another highlight is the new Turbo Mode, which is also expected to be released in 2021. It is said to be a simpler and faster version of TFT.
Additionally, work is continuing feverishly on a Spectator Mode, which is intended to be finished in time for the finale of Set 5.
Set 5 refers to events in LoL and Wild Rift
What do we know so far about Set 5? There isn’t a name for the new set yet, but it is already clear that it will have a “Good vs Evil” theme. Players will be tasked with restoring “Balance”.
The story centers around Viego, the fallen king, who will appear as a new champion in LoL in early 2021. The teaser already indicates that champions like Garen, Volibear, Teemo, Darius, and Veigar will be included.
What do we know about Set 6? Nothing has been revealed about Set 6, except that it is expected to be released in autumn. More information will likely be available only after the release of Set 5.
New mode for players with little time
What is the Turbo Mode? While regular matches currently last 30 to 60 minutes – depending on how long one survives – a match in the new mode should be significantly faster. There is no exact time indication yet. Currently, it is speculated that matches will last approximately 10 to 20 minutes.
This is about the same time that the game Chess Rush requires, which has been a good alternative to TFT due to this short duration.
The basic principles of the Turbo Mode are intended to be identical to TFT, only everything is supposed to be a bit simpler and faster.
When will the mode be released? The release is planned for spring along with the upcoming Set 5.
