Which class in TERA (PC, PS4, and Xbox One) is best suited for which taste and preference? What classes are available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One? Learn more about the advantages and disadvantages of each class in our TERA class and race guide for 2022.
“What should I play?” This question occupies many MMORPG players given this huge selection, and players of the action-MMO TERA are no exception.
We have listed all 13 classes and 7 races for you and show which hero type is best suited for which taste and play style.
Update: We have revised and adjusted this article again in February 2022. The basis of our research was the Subreddit for TERA as well as the TERA Wiki. The original version of this article was created with the help of Noyn from the official TERA forum, who assisted in this guide and comparison of classes. The foundation was then the PC version.
The 13 Classes of TERA at a Glance
The currently 13 classes in TERA are divided into tanks, supporters, and ranged as well as melee DPS. Furthermore, the classes differ in their choice of armor, there are heavy as well as light armors and robes.
That’s the general information about the classes. In the following paragraphs, you will find details about each class and their gameplay. Unless otherwise mentioned, all races and genders can use each class.
The Tank Classes in TERA
Tanks have the task of protecting their group and binding the enemy. Three classes are particularly good for this in TERA, and a fourth class, the Berserker, can also become a tank from level 65 onwards.
The Lancer – More Tank is Not Possible!

If you want to be tanks and nothing else, then choose a Lancer as your class. The heavily armored warrior with the shield and lance is a true damage point sponge. He absorbs the enemy’s attacks as if there were no tomorrow and has many skills to draw the attention of enemies to himself. Additionally, he buffs the whole group.
| Role | Classic Tank |
| Combat Style | Melee |
| Equipment | Plate |
Advantages: The Lancer attracts massive aggro from enemies with his skills. He also strengthens the group with buffs.
Disadvantages: The Lancer is sluggish and requires good timing. As a beginner, you might be better off choosing a different tank class. Those who play such a main tank should reliably master their hero, or else it can quickly lead to a group wipe. He also requires a lot of mana.
The Lancer in Solo Play: When you are alone with the Lancer, you will have some trouble with farming despite high survivability. This is because the tank deals comparatively little damage, and even if you eventually kill an enemy, your hero works best in a group.
The Lancer in Endgame PvE: Currently, there is no better tank than the Lancer. You shouldn’t have any problems finding a group. His group buffs and high resistance round off his strong overall package. If powerful burst DPS classes are on the team, the Lancer is practically required because he reliably holds aggro.
The Storm Fury/Storm Fist – Sexy Off-Tank

Storm Furies and their male counterparts, Storm Fists, are combative fellows who beat enemies with massive gauntlets. They deal good damage and are among the best solo DPS classes in the game. Additionally, they have excellent defensive abilities.
| Role | Tank with attack power, Off-Tank |
| Combat Style | Melee |
| Equipment | Plate |
Earlier, only human females could be Storm Furies, but now there is also the male version called Storm Fist! Furthermore, now the cute Elin and Popori can also brawl as this class.
Advantages: Storm Furies deal a lot of damage for tanks and play more actively than Lancers. With a self-buff, automatic blocking is added, making it very easy for beginners in TERA to cope with this class.
Disadvantages: Unfortunately, Storm Furies do not have group support skills. Additionally, it can be a bit tricky to maintain the active self-buff since you have to attack regularly to do so, which may neglect tanking.
The Storm Fury in Solo Play: Since Storm Furies can take a lot of hits, block, and deal heavy blows, they are optimal for solo farming.
The Storm Fury in Endgame PvE: The Storm Fury is not as good a tank as the Lancer due to the lack of group buffs, but she does her job decently and achieves higher damage potential. However, be careful not to deal too much burst DPS in the group, or the Fury will quickly lose aggro. Moreover, the Storm Fury is easier to play, which makes her particularly interesting for less experienced players who want to be tanks.
