In Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4, iOS, Switch & Xbox One), a 14-year-old boy from the USA is already a professional gamer who gets paid for playing. However, his career dream is different.
At 14, already an eSports professional: Enzo Simonette is a teenager from Dublin, Ohio (USA). Like many of his peers, he plays a lot of Fortnite. But unlike most Fortnite kids, he gets paid for gaming.
He is a member of the eSports team Ghost Gaming. They pay him a monthly salary for his performance in eSports, and he can also pocket his share of tournament winnings.
10 hours of gaming a day as a job
What does the boy do all the time? Professional gaming takes a lot of time. Enzo has to spend an average of 10 hours a day playing Fortnite. Only then can he maintain his high level. He plays with three other boys on his team.
First tournament still to come: The first test will take place in September in Montreal (Canada). There will be several hundred thousand dollars in prize money at stake. And then there is the big World Cup 2019.
Fortnite professional actually wants to become a doctor
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: Enzo finds his new job pretty crazy: “It’s a really wild experience that not many people my age ever get the chance to have.”
Parents are okay with it: Enzo’s parents support their son in his eSports career. However, they make sure that the boy does not spend the whole day in front of the screen. There are clear rules that he must follow. Therefore, he has to be present during family meals, take out the trash, and be generally present.
Here in the video, Enzo Simonette talks about his experiences in his new job.
Other career in mind: Although Enzo can look back on a successful eSports career, he actually has other plans. He wants to competitive play Fortnite for as long as possible, but school and further education will soon become a greater priority in his life. He actually wants to become a doctor, and a medical degree is unlikely to fit well with an eSports career.
Enzo is not the only teenager who has made it to become a Fortnite professional:
