In a large livestream, Riot Games announced many innovations for Teamfight Tactics, their LoL Auto Chess, on October 16. Alongside TFT Mobile, much was discussed about Set 2, which brings new champions and origins.
Update October 21: Meanwhile, 50 of the 51 champions are confirmed, and we have received new information about the origins and classes.

What is Set 2? To keep the Auto Battler TFT always exciting, the developers are planning regular changes in the champions. New sets are supposed to be released every 3 to 4 months.
A set brings many new champions and origins, and is intended to completely change the meta. Old champions will also be removed from the game, so a set always starts with around 50 champions.
When will Set 2 be released? Set 2, titled “Rise of the Elements,” is scheduled to officially arrive in the game on November 5 with Patch 9.22.
However, it will already be released on the test server. The release is planned for October 22.
Although we have to wait for the release on the PBE to get specific information about champions and origins, the first videos and interviews are already teasing many of the innovations.
New Champions and Origins in Set 2
Which new champions will Set 2 bring? During the event for the 10th birthday of League of Legends, besides six new games, Teamfight Tactics was also discussed.
Several champions were presented with images or even in action on the board:

- Jax
- Kog’Maw
- Lux
- Master Yi
- Nami
- Nasus
- Olaf
- Renekton
- Sivir
- Syndra
- Thresh
- Vladimir
- Zyra
It is very likely that there will be more new champions in Set 2. The set is expected to start with 51 champions, some of which are from the previous version. Set 2, like before, with Hextech or Kai’Sa, will also be expanded over time.
What can the new champions do from Set 2? From an interview with developers Mortdog and Maple, we already know that Annie will receive the new class “Summoner.” This class is intended to summon additional creatures for battle: Annie calls upon her bear Tibbers for assistance.
Additionally, there is the new origin “Inferno,” to which Annie could belong. It is expected to be comparable to Sorcerers, which likely makes it possible that the “Sorcerer” class is rotated out of TFT.
Other confirmed origins and classes are:
- Poison – origin
- Desert – origin
- Mystics – class
Old Champions that Will Remain in Set 2
Which old champions will remain? In the announcement for the new set, you can also experience some old champions in action together with new ones. It is likely that these 5 old champions will remain in the new Season 2 of the game
- Shen
- Vayne
- Veigar
- Volibear
- Warwick
What do we know about the old champions from Set 1? In the interview, Mortdog and Maple revealed that the origins Phantom and Hextech are unpopular with players and developers. It is quite possible, therefore, that they will be removed with Set 2.
Additionally, there is a possibility that old champions will receive new origins or classes with the help of skins. At least you can see in the video Shen and Warwick with new skins.
Veigar could join the Mystics if the Sorcerers rotate out.
Finally, with Patch 9.19, a bonus for 9 Yordle was introduced, even though there are not many in the game yet. This makes new Yordle for Set 2 likely. Speculation is already underway about Teemo, who could also join the origin “Poison.”
New Items, Beta Season, and TFT Mobile
What will change about the items in Set 2? At the release of Set 2, there are expected to be no major adjustments to the items. Patch 9.19 had recently brought many new items.
However, there will be innovations throughout the set, as Mortdog mentioned in the interview.
When does the Beta Season end? Alongside the release of Patch 9.22, the beta season in Teamfight Tactics will also end. Players are expected to be rewarded based on their ranking, but the exact rewards will be announced later.
When is TFT Mobile coming? Another major announcement for the 10th birthday was the release of Teamfight Tactics Mobile in the first quarter of 2020.
