This affects F2P players and players with preferred status
If you’ve checked your emails recently, you may have already been informed. In Star Wars: The Old Republic, your character names may be in danger. Depending on your current player status in the game, how active you’ve been lately, and which level you’ve reached with the respective character, under certain circumstances, the names you have chosen may soon be made available to other players.
This is called “Character Name Renewal” and offers active players from November 12, 2013, the possibility to potentially reuse long-held, but unused desired names. Whether this is really necessary is up for debate. However, if you are among those who have played the game Free2Play or with preferred status and are currently taking a break, make sure to check the information below to see if you are affected. Generally, you can save your names by simply logging in with the affected characters once by November 12, and you’re done. This can be done without any costs, as we know.
For those who would have liked to have new names anyway – well, just wait and you could rename a character for free. Otherwise, the campaign can surely be summarized easily under the motto “Inactive Player Mobilization”.
