The top RPG on Steam in the category “best-rated” is still “The Witcher 3”. Even 8 years after its release, developer “CD Project Red” manages to delight fans with small innovations.
So current is Witcher 3:
- The base game of “The Witcher 3” was released in 2015, followed by an expansion pass and two DLCs by 2016.
- It was then released on numerous other consoles, such as the Nintendo Switch or just last year on the PlayStation 5.
- To this day, the game is regularly patched and received a next-gen upgrade along with a new quest in 2022.

“Create your own experiences”
The next innovation for “The Witcher 3” is likely a “Mod Editor”. It is set to be released for free in 2024, but only for PC.
But what can this new Mod Editor do? In a post on X, it says: “It will allow you to create your own experiences in the game”. For this, you should be able to comfortably customize content and even entire quests, or create something completely new.
How was it so far? Mods are not new in “The Witcher 3”. On platforms like “Nexusmods”, many cool and sometimes really absurd mods can already be downloaded.
However, most mods are more about minor changes like unlimited carrying capacity or tattoos for the witcher Geralt. While there are already story mods, these are much harder to implement and therefore also rarer.
The new Mod Editor promises improvement, with more room for creative ideas. It could also make managing the already used mods easier. However, more specific details about the nature and scope of the editor are not yet known.
What does the community say? Many fans are excited and looking forward to the unexpected innovation.
“This is HUGE!!! I can already see the modding community making their own 30h+ game,” writes a user on X.
There is also hope regarding the latest game from the developer. “If you do this for Cyberpunk soon, I’ll freak out.”

In addition to great characters, tragic stories, and action-packed gameplay, one thing that many fans consider a highlight of “The Witcher 3”: the card game Gwent. The mini-game in the game can distract for many hours from the daily duties of a monster hunter.
No wonder, then, that later there were several separate Gwent games. However, the online version “Gwent: The Witcher Card Game” has now unexpectedly ended. You can find out what will happen with the game here on MeinMMO:
