The American streamer OfficialDuckStudios was banned on Twitch for using a crossbow during a livestream and injuring his cameraman.
How did this happen? During a livestream on Friday, April 21, 2023, OfficialDuckStudios (ODS) was drinking alcohol with friends and his cameraman “Joey”. The streamer then had the idea to test his functional crossbow.
After the attendees had shot at a crate, ODS asked the question: “Do you think the bolt can break through that door?” The streamer’s chat responded to the question with a clear “Yes,” but the streamer wanted to find out for himself.
Shortly thereafter, cameraman Joey went to the other side of the door into a small, dark room filled with clutter.
Then ODS shot at the door, which the bolt easily penetrated and hit the cameraman in the hip area. Later, they showed the bleeding wound on camera.
A clip of the scene can be seen on Twitter:
Why was he banned? Twitch’s community guidelines prohibit violence and the use of weapons. Additionally, the depiction of blood is prohibited as it can be “disturbing or shocking” (via Twitch.TV).
The use of the crossbow, the injury to the cameraman, and the display of bleeding wounds is therefore a violation of the platform’s guidelines.
Bolt pierces through up to 7 doors
What happened next? On April 25, ODS responded with a video on YouTube to the incident.
At the beginning of the video, a clip of the streamer “moistcr1tikal” is shown, in which he jokingly suggests that ODS should shoot through two doors next time. That’s exactly what he did and tested how many doors the bolt can break through.
The result shows how dangerous and reckless it was to place a person behind the door: The bolt pierced seven doors, and the eighth one had a scratch.
In general, streamers often engage in thoughtless and dangerous actions, like lighting fireworks in a house:
