The MMORPG Oldschool RuneScape has been around for several years, but things are still happening there for the first time. With 16 billion gold coins, the largest bounty in the game has now been paid out, and it was from the one who was killed.
What kind of challenge is this? Almost 2 years ago, the YouTuber and streamer C Engineer started a challenge on his channel. He played a character in Oldschool RuneScape in Hardcore Ironman mode. Furthermore, the streamer only allowed himself to play on PvP worlds, where he could be attacked by other players at any time.
During this time, his fans could deposit in-game gold into an account, the total amount of which would go to the one who could take out C Engineer. The challenge was supposed to end either when C Engineer managed to obtain the super rare Infernal Cape or when another player killed him.
What is Ironman mode? In fact, the streamer made it even more difficult than necessary by starting in Ironman mode. In this mode, your character faces massive restrictions, such as not being able to trade with other players or earn loot in groups. It all aims to have to fight through the world alone.
It is rounded off by the addition “Hardcore,” which means that your character permanently dies if they die.
However, after C Engineer had died twice against PvE bosses, he removed the Hardcore addition and continued to play only in Ironman, but he increased the jackpot for his deaths.
RuneScape is one of the 5 MMORPGs that are old but still actively played:
Sometimes the only option is to escape
How did the streamer survive for so long? 605 days after the creation of his account, his challenge ended, but unfortunately not with the Infernal Cape. After all this time, the streamer was actually killed.
But how could he survive for so long? Well, he fled. Whenever he saw a hostile player, he used a spell that teleported him back to his house. In tough situations, he simply panicked and closed the game. In the end, he had only killed 10 other players while the 11th player became his downfall.
Trapped with no way out: To ultimately take out C Engineer, 5 opponents teamed up and set a trap for him. They knew that he was currently farming a certain boss to get an item from him.
So the bounty hunters blocked all exits and used a spell that forbade C Engineer from teleporting back to his house. The streamer tried multiple times to escape, but was ultimately completely surrounded.
He also tried again to close the game, but he had no chance. Even after logging in again, the enemies were still waiting for him to finish their business and kill C Engineer after 605 long days of the challenge.
In the video from C Engineer, you can witness the last minutes of the Ironman character:
“Finally, they got me”
How does the streamer react? Initially, he can hardly believe that it is now over. He seems surprisingly composed and initially comments on his death with “That’s it… I’m dead. Yep… I’m dead.”
After that, he becomes a bit quieter. He summarizes that he would have preferred to end his run with the cape instead of with death, but what can you do. After 32 episodes on his channel, his challenge is now over, and he thanks everyone who watched and donated gold.
Then he shows live how he hands over the 16 billion gold coins to the character who ultimately killed him. The largest bounty ever redeemed in Oldschool RuneScape, as confirmed by the website PCGamer (via. pcgamer).
After that, C Engineer takes the matter with humor. While he still says in the video, somewhat puzzled, that he doesn’t know what to do now, he jokingly tweets shortly after, “Help, Google, how do I find a real job?” (via twitter).
How do his killers react? The leader of the group that hunted C Engineer also recorded the whole thing on video (via. YouTube). He describes that it was really not so easy to catch C Engineer. First, they had to clear all the other players out of the way who were after him.
When it finally worked out, the joy was enormous. However, one of the 5 participants missed the decisive fight because he was making tea when the streamer showed up. Nevertheless, he is allowed to join in and receives the gold because the group fairly shares the 16 billion among themselves.
What do you think about it? Have you ever experienced such a story in a game? What do you think about C Engineer surviving for a whole 605 days? Feel free to let us know in the comments here on MeinMMO.
