Important times are ahead for Star Trek Online. The transition to console comes with the next expansion.
The Past Haunts the Future
There are some changes coming soon to Star Trek Online. Not only will there be a transition to a console version of the game, but the next expansion “Agents of Yesterday” will also be released.
Thematically, as the name suggests, Agents of Yesterday revolves around time travel to the past. All players with a Gold status or a lifetime subscription can test two of the new missions in advance, “Tangled Webs” and “Battle of Calev IV”. In the “Battle of Caleb IV”, Klingon ships have attacked the Federation’s communication network – players must negotiate and, if necessary, resort to violence to resolve this conflict.
Fans of the series will find many references to it, as the new expansion deals with numerous episodes from Star Trek.
A major challenge for the developers was adapting the interface to make the game fit for console. Unlike on PC, console players have only a few input options available, and the individual elements of the interface had to be larger – after all, one usually sits further away from the TV than from the PC monitor.
