Patrick’s Personal Recommendation from June 30: Cities: Skylines
A city-building game as complex as this, I haven’t played in a long time. In Cities: Skylines, you’ll face various challenges when trying to build a large, beautiful, and well-populated city. How do you handle your city’s waste? Do you generate electricity with solar energy or prefer to set up a few coal power plants in the area? When you start a city, it begins with a road where you can build settlements. Of course, the people moving into your small city not only need electricity and water but also shops and jobs.
As soon as you fulfill the basic conditions of a city, the first “problems” arise that you need to solve creatively: Do we need a bus network to relieve the streets of cars – and if so, how much should the fare be? Or maybe subways that only stop at main buildings like universities or theaters? Through tweets from your citizens, you learn what the residents of your city are unhappy about – but also what is working well. In Cities: Skylines, you can really invest many hours of gameplay without getting bored.
If you enjoy building cities and paying attention to details, you should definitely give this game a try.
