That the previous version of the Steam Mobile App was, to put it mildly, a bit awkward is something anyone who downloaded it must have noticed. Now Valve has completely overhauled it, giving it a new framework, a new design, and new features. You can find all the information in this article.
On the evening of yesterday Wednesday, October 12, 2022 Valve surprisingly announced that they have completely revamped the Steam Mobile App for Android and iOS. This was urgently needed since the previous version of the app was no longer up to date, especially regarding its design and user interface.

These are the new features of the Steam Mobile App
As usual, you can of course still browse the shop, receive Steam Guard codes, and confirm trade requests. In addition, there are now a lot of new features:
- The two-factor authentication ensures that only you have access to your account.
- Log in to Steam by scanning a QR code instead of using a password or
- confirm your usual login with a simple tap on “Approve” or “Deny”.
- Authorized devices: Access management for devices logged into your account
- Access to the Steam shop, community, news, etc. – anytime and anywhere
- Your library with all game content, discussions, guides, support pages, and more
- Remote downloads of games and updates to your PC from your smartphone
- Customization of Steam notifications: wish list, sales, comments, trade requests, discussions, friend requests, and more
- Management of trade and market confirmations to ensure that items leave your inventory only with your consent
- An enhanced experience for browsing the shop on mobile devices
- Support for multiple accounts in the app
- Customizable tabs

It is immediately noticeable that the updated Mobile App now has a very similar design to the desktop version. A unified design would also be a novelty for Valve’s platform.
In addition to smarter notifications and a significantly improved library view with the option for remote downloads, one of the biggest innovations is that you can now log in directly with a QR code on your computer.
The updated Steam Mobile App also offers much better protection for your account thanks to the new two-factor authentication.
This is how two-factor authentication works for login
After scanning the QR code, the Steam Mobile App shows you a confirmation page with information about the login, such as the location of the device from which the login attempt originated. Based on these details, you can identify yourself securely and clearly for Steam.
Consequently, you can also refuse further login attempts that should not be from you with two-factor authentication – for example, if your password has been stolen.
This type of login has been known for a long time from many other apps. The integration of this feature was therefore long overdue. Of course, you can still log in with your account name and password if you prefer the old way.
