With a new expansion, the survival shooter DayZ on Steam aims to make survival even harder for you. You will no longer have to contend only with other humans and zombies, but also with the weather.
What is it about? It is about Frostline, a new expansion for the survival shooter DayZ on Steam. This includes a fresh map that brings new wildlife as well as some new and revised mechanics to the game.
Some of the contents are shown by the developers in an atmospheric trailer:
What does the trailer show? The new map is a volcanic archipelago, which you can now also navigate with a rubber boat. The land is characterized by snowy pine forests and barren tundra. Here you will also find old settlements, research stations, and airfields.
The eternal winter looks nice, but it also means that you have to survive under difficult conditions. The cold climate of the region is as dangerous for unprepared players as roaming wolves and zombies.
Fighting against the cold and other innovations
What are the new mechanics? To survive on Sakhal, the new map, you need to dress warmly – and not just in a figurative sense. How exposed you are to the cold depends on your clothing. A fireplace in your shelter is also good to thaw out after a trip.
What goes on your plate, you will mostly have to hunt or fish yourself. To this end, the developers at Bohemia Interactive have revised the existing fishing mechanics. Additionally, three new animals are being added to the archipelago: rabbits, reindeer, and foxes. However, beware of the diseases that Frostline has in store for you.
When is the expansion coming out? DayZ Frostline was already released on October 15, 2024, on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox. The expansion is priced at €26.99, but on Steam, it is available for just €24.29 until October 29.
