As of today, there is a new update for Steam, which will particularly appeal to multitasking fans. The new game overlay allows you to watch tutorial videos on YouTube while playing – or simply watch a movie.
What is this update about? The new update for Steam includes all the features that were previously tested in a beta. They are available in both the mobile and desktop versions, as well as on the Steam Deck.
There was not only a visual refresh of the Steam interface but also numerous useful features. You can now pin notes or simply watch movies while you game.
What features are included? Mainly, the changes affect the in-game overlay. You open this with Shift + Tab while in the game. A new toolbar allows you to access your friends list, your game progress, notes, or the browser while gaming.
In the in-game overlay, as you can see in the image, you will find numerous options and adjustments. You can display your game progress or search for tips about the game on Steam.
You can open the windows through the menu bar at the bottom, move them as you wish, and close them. You can also pin them so they don’t disappear into the background while gaming.
If you are as forgetful as I am, you could write yourself a note saying ‘Take laundry out of the machine!’ and pin it. It won’t disappear, but you can set the transparency so it doesn’t bother you too much.

Gaming or watching movies – or just both?
How can I watch movies while gaming? It’s simple: By opening the streaming service of your choice in the web browser and selecting a movie or video there.
You could, for example, watch this German fantasy series, which is reminiscent of Stranger Things:
What is this useful for? Not every one of us has multiple monitors, so we always have to choose between gaming and streaming series or movies, if we like to do that on the PC.
With the update for Steam, it is now possible to watch a movie, a series, or YouTube videos even while gaming. Although the window might be quite small, there is surely a lot that you want to watch in the background.
In the web browser, you could also watch tutorials about the game or read guides without having to tab out of the window.
The update starts automatically; alternatively, you can search for updates in the upper bar. Click on ‘Steam’ and then on ‘Check for Steam Client Updates’.
Finally, there was an update for the shop, to give players more options for searching.
