The gaming platform Steam is said to be getting a new feature that could help you with puzzles and remembering important information. Some players have wished for this system for years.
What is this feature? The feature is a system that allows you to create notes – a kind of digital notebook. Such a system has been desired by some players in the past.
On Reddit, for example, a user asked 8 years ago, “Can we get a notebook within the Steam overlay?” In the comments on the post, there are also some users who find the idea good, even though they currently use writing programs or similar for this purpose. Overall, the proposal received 200 upvotes on Reddit.
Besides Reddit, the topic also made its way into the community area on Steam. There, a player wrote in 2019, “Steam, please add a game notebook so that we can take notes in-game and save them in the cloud.”
Again on Steam, there were several users who agreed with the suggestion, as well as players who recommended a few workarounds. The most common workaround within Steam was to create a group/chat with yourself.
Where does the information come from? The Twitter user “thexpaw” is a data miner who deals with files from Steam. On Twitter, thexpaw shared two screenshots on March 18 that, according to his assessment, indicate that Steam will introduce a notebook system.
In addition to the hint that Steam might receive a notebook, the data miner is also dealing with the currently much-discussed topic surrounding Counter-Strike 2 and its related leaks.
What is this useful for? A notebook within Steam would not only serve the obvious purpose of creating notes but would primarily aim at preventing you from having to tab out of a game to jot down something.
Instead, ideally, you could open the notebook in the Steam overlay with a key combination, note important information, and close the note without leaving the game.
This is useful in both single-player and multiplayer games. Frequently, you receive short numerical codes or passwords in games that you need to enter later.
Also, when solving puzzles or deciphering raid mechanics in the new raid of Destiny 2, a notebook is helpful.
