On Steam, you can collect points in various ways. One of them is criticized in the community.
What are Steam Points? On Steam, there are so-called Steam Points. You receive them when you spend money on the platform or when you receive awards for uploaded content and reviews that you have published.
The latter currently receives criticism from the community. Specifically, it concerns a special award: the Clown.
A Clown, Many Trolls
Why is the award criticized? There is currently a post in the Steam subreddit that has already gathered more than 22,000 upvotes. Here is a screenshot of a comment on Steam referring to the Clown award.
The corresponding user writes: “I speak on behalf of all Steam users when I ask you to remove the Clown Award; it is disrespectful and offensive.” Looking at the number of upvotes of the post, it seems that the user is not alone in this opinion. Another criticism can also be found more often in the comments.

What is the problem with the award? Several commentators on Reddit believe that trolls, point farmers, and bots write extra posts – with the intention of receiving the Clown award in response.
In this way, they collect Steam Points, which can be spent in the points shop for animated avatars, profile frames, or backgrounds.
What does the community say about this? Currently, there are almost 400 comments under the post. Some of them say:
- “It’s annoying, but it’s obvious point collecting, and people are still stupid enough to support it,” writes bibicalcucumber
- “These people don’t even own the game; there’s no mouse icon next to their name in the comment. You’re all baited by point farmers,” says ElonsMuskyFeet
- “I really wish Valve would give the Clown award without points,” hopes hazexm
- “None of them should get a point. What a stupid decision that was,” replies weebitofaban to the previous comment
While many players are upset about the awards and the points that can be earned with them on Steam, there are also positive changes coming to Steam. Recently, a new feature was introduced so you can finally see who is responsible for the poor performance of your game.
