The strategy game Endless Legend is celebrating its 10th anniversary on Steam in 2024. Thanks to a developer promotion, it is currently heavily discounted and even available for free. This has set a new player record for the title.
What kind of game is it? Endless Legend is a turn-based 4X strategy game, placing it in a category alongside games like Civilization. While the latter is based on our real world – with some creative liberties – Endless Legend transports you to the planet Auriga, which is threatened by a mysterious catastrophe.
So not only do you need to build, develop, and expand your own civilization, but you also have to save the world in the process.
Endless Legend was released on September 18, 2014, on Steam, where it enjoys an “Very Positive” rating with 84% recommendations. It currently ranks 4th among the best-rated 4X games on Steam (as of January 20, 2024).

What are the player numbers like? Endless Legend had an average of 156 players in December 2023, peaking at 329. This is not unusual for a game that is almost 10 years old – what is surprising is that the much newer Endless Dungeon from 2023 barely has more players (via SteamDB).
In the last 30 days, Endless Dungeon has averaged over 2,000 players and even set a new player record of 88,785 simultaneous players on the night of Saturday. The last peak was at 10,429 simultaneous players in April 2015 (via Steamcharts).
Where does the increase come from? This is likely due to a special promotion from the developer Amplitude Studios. Until January 25, 2024, Endless Legend is available for just €4.99, representing an 80% discount on Steam.
