The 23-year-old e-sports player Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken has won a major tournament in Counter-Strike 2 (Steam) with his team FaZe. But his way of celebrating will not please Valve. He commented on the weaknesses of the new shooter: the ping is a real problem and makes many things random.
Who is Twistzz in CS:GO?
- The 23-year-old Twistzz has been active in Counter-Strike since 2015 and has been playing as a rifler for the FaZe Clan since 2021.
- The Canadian is an e-sports millionaire (via esportearnings): He has earned a total of 1.63 million US dollars in 129 tournaments. Most of his earnings came when he was just 19 years old in 2019, when he won the Intel Grand Slam Season 2 for $200,000.
- This time he achieved victory in the “Thunderpick World Championship 2023” with FaZe. The tournament had a total prize pool of $500,000 – for the rifler, this resulted in $50,000 at the end.
Player criticizes CS 2 after the tournament
This is what the player said: You might expect the player to celebrate his victory and the prize money exuberantly, but he first went on Twitter and wrote shortly after the tournament victory:
Now that the event is over, I want to express my current feelings about CS2.
He then complained about:
- the high ping, which fluctuates between 40 and 50, but can also jump to 60 or 80
- that the game feels totally unstable in movement, and how he sprays opponents with ammunition
In the clip, you can see that he did not register the opponent in time but still got a kill even though he did not even see the opponent. It all just does not make sense.
In CS:GO everything felt better. In CS2, the ping feels incredibly important now and he has to adjust his entire game to catch opponents.
He then provides a variety of examples of further problems in the game, such as randomly occurring issues with height in the game or with clipping.
What’s behind it: It is obvious that Valve still has a lot of work to do before e-sports players feel they have fairly earned their high prize money in CS2. The problems seem to violate the competitive integrity of the game.
Even at release, there were complaints about Counter-Strike 2 from reputable voices:
