Guild Wars 2 – it’s taking time, but at least we now know a date
Guild Wars 2 now has the WoW problem. With WoW, players waited almost the entire year 2014 for the new expansion to come out, until it finally happened in November.
Guild Wars 2 essentially gives 2015 away, only at the end of October will “Heart of Thorns” breathe life back into the game. The art of keeping players engaged during such a waiting phase is something both games do not master.
We give you the base game for free, but we are definitely not Free2Play
Interesting was the dance that Guild Wars 2 performed to eat the cake and keep it at the same time. They want to distribute the base game for free to attract many players, but do not want to give even the semblance of being a despised “Free2Play scam title.” They want nothing to do with it.
This also shows how poor the reputation of Free2Play is here in the West. That a community already trembles and roars when merely the semblance arises that their beloved MMORPG home is taking this step. It is also a matter of status.
Guild Wars 2 stays true to itself
Otherwise, Guild Wars 2 remains true to itself: Here they follow their own path, believe in it, and do not want to partake in the item spiral and “bigger, better, faster” thing. We will see how this will harmonize with the idea of introducing raids ultimately when only cosmetic items come out.
A great deal has not changed at Guild Wars 2, considering critically. While we now know a date, it is still later than optimists hoped. At the beginning of the year, ArenaNet gave the impression: It’s going to be fast, we are already far along. You’ll be able to play it in March. Some were then hoping for a release of Heart of Thorns in the summer.
It ended up taking much longer. As mentioned: battleships, not cruisers.
