WildStar – it’s taking time
The SF MMO WildStar is the problem child among our 5 MMORPGs. In the last quarter, there has been basically nothing new to report. They are working towards a desperately needed Free2Play transition , and until then, there is very little new to report. Many players are watching from afar with growing interest. Before it becomes Free2Play, they will hardly touch it.
Carbine has long since laid all their cards on the table. They have stated what will change beyond the payment model. They aim to become more accessible, nicer, and friendlier.
And now it’s: Wait, wait, wait.
Since our last look at WildStar, nothing has changed fundamentally. Only a quarter of a year has passed. That’s the big problem with all MMORPGs: They are not agile cruisers, but massive battleships. Small course corrections can be made within weeks and months. But changing the entire direction takes months and years.
The step to Free2Play was probably already apparent behind the scenes in autumn 2014. It will probably take about a year until it is realized.
When will WildStar finally be Free2Play?
We don’t know yet a date for Free2Play, but it should come soon. Otherwise, it will collide with the release of the expansion for Guild Wars 2 or later with the launch of Blade and Soul.
Since GW2 is coming in 2 months, the earliest in September would likely be the right time. One will hardly be able to avoid the winter.
