Guild Wars 2 – is somehow between two expansions
At Guild Wars 2, there is a bit of a hangover mood.
Initially, Heart of Thorns was supposed to be the new base from which new game content would be easier to bring. The team is already working on the next expansion.
However, in recent months it seemed they were busy fixing mistakes or details. With Heart of Thorns, Guild Wars 2 became too grindy, too linear; players were forced into activities that didn’t suit them – these were the main complaints. Therefore, the team had to spend a patch cycle fixing things and take new directions.
Then there was a leadership change, with Mike O’Brien temporarily taking over as Game Director. They plan to continue with the paused Living Story this summer. PvP is supposed to become big, they’ve still made a strong commitment to esports, while the most loyal fans are calling for a revision of WvW.
Where are we headed now?
Many small fire spots for Guild Wars 2. Different parts of the game are crying out for attention. It was even said: We have no resources; we can no longer make legendary weapons. Something else is now more important.
Like many MMORPGs, Guild Wars 2 also has problems transitioning from the festive mood of “We have a new expansion out!” to the everyday “And there’s something new this month!”
Instead of being inspired to finally have the expansion out and developing a momentum forward, MMOs often look back, correct mistakes, deal with the past. Then there come restructurings, people take longer vacations, leave the company, get promoted – thus months go by. But this phase should slowly be concluding for GW2 now.

The Spring Update was well received by fans and gives them a more positive outlook for the future.
Finding the balance between short-term and long-term game content will be one of the most important tasks for the new leadership. Whoever ultimately takes on that role.
