With the game Starlink, Ubisoft announced an interesting game concept at E3: Starlink is an open-world action game with an amiibo-like collection and toy system.
Starlink places you in a distant solar system, which you can explore freely with your spaceship. As in No Man’s Sky, the transitions between space and planets are seamless. However, it is not possible to exit the ship and wander around. You remain – except for cutscenes – always aboard the vessel.
In the solar system, a so-called Legion is spreading, a dark power that threatens to destroy everything. Your task is: to stop the Legion.

Starlink: Game offers space battles with modular ships
In doing so, you face off against the villains in space and also on the seven planets, each featuring different landscapes. Action-packed battles are therefore in the foreground. However, tactics are of utmost importance. It is possible to modify your spaceship “on the fly.” This works through an amiibo-like system.
You plug the spaceship into your controller, which gets recognized and taken over by the game. You can now attach various modules to the ship, such as more powerful weapons, better hulls, new wings, or a different crew.
New modules and new ships planned – Here is the E3 trailer for Starlink
These changes will be immediately transferred to the ship in the game and provide you with different attributes. This way, you can react directly to changing situations. For example, if you notice in battle that your weapons are hardly dealing damage, you simply swap them out on the spaceship model, and the ship in the game adopts these changes, allowing you to continue fighting more effectively.
Ubisoft plans to regularly release new spaceships and modules for sale. No information has yet been revealed about a multiplayer mode. Starlink is set to be released in autumn 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
