You should definitely change a small setting in Starfield before you really start playing. Because with that, you can significantly improve your performance.
Starfield was released on September 1, 2023. However, there are still some bugs in the game. Some users and YouTubers report that FSR is currently bugged and the frames per second (FPS) drop significantly when using the technology.
But there is a trick to significantly improve your performance again. Because with it, you can bypass an annoying bug that costs you performance.
Players report that FSR currently has some bugs
What is the problem? Players are now reporting that FSR is achieving the opposite. Instead of increasing your FPS, they are dropping instead. Sometimes even quite significantly. But with a trick, you can bypass the bug. We have embedded a YouTube video that explains the step again:
How to increase your performance: First, deactivate FSR and then switch to the low preset graphics settings. When switching to the low settings, the game automatically re-enables FSR. Now, however, you can benefit from a significant performance boost through FSR, which you couldn’t utilize without this workaround. If you enable FSR immediately, the bug still currently prevents a performance boost.
If you notice that your FPS are not significantly increasing with FSR, then switch the settings as described. The trick works with both AMD and Nvidia graphics cards.
What is FSR? FSR is an upscaling technique: Your game is rendered in a low resolution and then upscaled to your correct resolution. The missing pixels are then calculated and supplemented by your graphics card. The advantage of FSR is that the technique also works with graphics cards from Intel and Nvidia.
Nvidia’s alternative is DLSS, which works even better, but is limited to Nvidia graphics cards. DLSS has not yet been integrated into Starfield. Whether that will happen depends on the developers.
