The latest update to Stardew Valley brings a multiplayer mode. Additionally, players can look forward to new items and events.
Stardew Valley can now be played in multiplayer! The new patch integrates the ability to farm together with friends. After a beta version for multiplayer was released in April, it is now a fixed part of the main game. New events and items are also included.
For now only for PC: Currently, the patch has only been released for the Steam, GOG, Mac, and Linux versions, but consoles are expected to be supported in the near future.
What is Stardew Valley? Stardew Valley is an RPG and a type of farming simulation inspired by games like Harvest Moon.
After inheriting a farm, players take over its daily operations and manage it. Various factors are crucial, such as
- the changing seasons, for which you can make preparations
- sufficient sleep, as your character has limited energy available
- the proper handling of plants, their watering, fertilizing
- life with the villagers
Players must pay attention to a variety of things to be successful in Stardew Valley.
The special thing: Stardew Valley was developed by Eric Barone – all by himself! It took him four years to achieve this.
Stardew Valley now has cooperative multiplayer
How can you play Stardew Valley cooperatively? Up to four players can manage a farm simultaneously, as long as all own a copy of the game and enough sleep cabins have been built on the farm.
One player will be chosen as the host, whom others can join. The mode is selectable from the title screen after the update.
You can start a game as a host, join others, and also continue existing cooperative games as long as the respective host is online. LAN games are also possible, or you can find each other via a password.
Crossplay as an option: Steam and GOG players even have the option to play together via crossplay.
Beforehand, the host can determine the number of sleep cabins and even influence their position. It is also possible to start without sleep cabins and then have them built yourself.
The difficulty level, or profit margins, can also be set in advance. These are the four levels available:
- 100% (Normal)
- 75%
- 50%
- 25%
Everything is shared: In a cooperative game, all players share the money and work on the same farm; the state of the game world and the progress of the players counts for everyone. All players must even go to bed at the same time to be able to rest.
A wedding is even possible among players, provided they craft a “Wedding Ring”. A chat box is intended to facilitate communication.

New events and items in the new update
In addition to the multiplayer, the new update brings several new contents. These include:
- new events, such as a festival that comes to Pelican Town once a year and promises players rare items
- a winter mystery in the form of new collection items
- the possibility to help villagers
- new character events (some of which are secret), providing you with permanent bonuses
- three stronger types of already known monsters
- treasure rooms that can be randomly found and contain valuable items, two of which can only be found in these rooms
- the change of profession, which is associated with a cost
- signs that can be placed in front of your farm, on which every item can be pinned
- decorations that match the respective season
- an expensive “Auto-Grabber” that automatically milks your cows every morning and shears the wool of the sheep
- flower pots that allow you to plant things in your house even in winter
- new seeds for plants that can only be grown indoors
- horse hats
Unfortunately, it is currently unknown when patch 1.3 will be released for consoles.
