For many years, fans had to wait for a new StarCraft. However, in 2026, we might finally see the implementation.
Blizzard is primarily known for three major franchises: Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft. While the first two have been receiving new games and expansions for years, it has been quiet around Zerg, Protoss, and Terran since StarCraft II.
But that could change now. Because nearly 10 years after the last proper DLC for StarCraft II, the upcoming BlizzCon is highly likely to present a new game – this is reported by Windows Central, relying on insider sources.

When will it be presented? If the claims are true, the new StarCraft game will be presented at BlizzCon 2026, on September 12 and 13, 2026. This is a few months earlier than usual, as BlizzCon usually takes place in November.
A StarCraft shooter modeled after Destiny
Where does the info come from? Jez Corden reports in an article for the magazine Windows Central about it. He writes that “the big headline for BlizzCon 2026 is most likely StarCraft. It has been previously reported that StarCraft is getting a 3rd-Person shooter, and I have confirmed these rumors a while ago with my own sources.”
Even though, as usual, the exact sources are not named, they are likely Blizzard insiders.
In addition to these sources, there are also other indications. The trailer for BlizzCon 2026 speaks for a new announcement as well. Because it not only features some scenes from StarCraft 2, but the trailer also ends with the famous words of Tychus “It’s about time”.
This might merely refer to the return of BlizzCon, but many interpret that as the return of the StarCraft franchise.
What kind of game will it be? There is not much certainty about that. The currently most widespread information suggests that the new StarCraft game will be a shooter modeled after Destiny. Rumors suggest that this was also one of the reasons why they let Bungie depart with Destiny so easily – because a comparable game in the own universe was in the making.
How exactly the game will look, whether it connects to the storyline of StarCraft II, and how pronounced the multiplayer focus will be, is still uncertain.
However, it seems clear that this will not be a new RTS – even though many fans hope that Blizzard will once again find its footing in this genre. After all, it was games like StarCraft and Warcraft III that elevated the RTS genre to the next modern level.
How likely is that? It has been known for a while that Blizzard has been working on at least one new game from the StarCraft universe for years. However, there have also been many StarCraft projects in the past that never saw the light of the digital world – such as “Nova” or “Ares”.
