In Star Trek Online, a major performance evaluation will soon take place. The developers aim to create better and smarter matchmaking in PvP and competitive PvE.
Performance evaluations are generally quite unpleasant, for example when the boss summons you to their office with a serious expression to discuss the results. Usually, something is wrong and the job is at risk.
It’s different in Star Trek Online, as the game evaluates your performance to provide you with more fun in PvP and competitive PvE!
Star Trek Online – Performance Evaluation – Fair Matchmaking for Everyone
On the occasion of the recently introduced maneuver game mode – a competitive PvE – the developers have announced a significantly improved and completely redesigned matchmaking system. The details of how this will work are now established. The game will take your gear, levels, and specializations into account and will assign you accordingly. So far, so known.
Additionally, STO now also evaluates your relative performance in relation to other players: how often you have won or lost. This also takes the differences between players into account. If you frequently lose against strong players, the system will adjust downwards and you’ll face easier opponents.
STO – Matchmaking – Always the Right Opponents
On the other hand, if you regularly blast the enemy into the ether, you’ll quickly rank up and will face opponents of your size in the future. Should your performance improve or decline in the future, the system will adjust again.
The developers do not want to reveal the new system entirely, as they plan to tinker with it regularly to further optimize it.
