Brilliant sci-fi MMO like Wing Commander and probably much more than that!

Well, let’s be honest, who of you still knows the cult game Wing Commander? The legendary multi-part sci-fi flight simulation with a really good story and a massive fan base? Does it ring a bell? Surely! As a starfighter pilot, we were members of the Tiger’s Claw and fought side by side with our various wingmen against the feline Kilrathi. Those were the days! Even people like me, who never really liked flight simulations, had a great time with the game and longed for a continuation of the brilliant story. And that, as you know since reading the headline, will now be available in the foreseeable future.
Okay, I admit, that’s not entirely correct, because Star Citizen is actually not the official successor to Wing Commander. But at least one of the developers from the old cult series is now also the creator of the next-gen sci-fi MMO – none other than Chris Roberts. Star Citizen is or rather will be, as can be easily heard, a space flight simulation that will likely find its release in 2015. As it stands, you will be able to play space pilots with various callings, expanding a whole galaxy of possibilities.

Space battles and missions will shape your daily life, you will find a free MMO world to explore, and intergalactic trade must of course not be missed. You will be able to acquire multiple spacecraft, modify them in various ways, and test them extensively in action. There will be a story campaign like Wing Commander that, and this sounds particularly nice, can also be played in coop mode. One of the many cherries on top, so to speak, will be the ability to play your character even without a spaceship and explore space stations and planets – basically (hopefully) the classic “on foot adventure”.

Successful Crowdfunding
How far individual or further game aspects can be expanded and integrated largely depends on how well the game can be further funded. And this point already makes Star Citizen a real success. The next-gen MMO flight simulation is financed through crowdfunding and has raised exactly “now” 26,412,096 US dollars from nearly 300,000 supporters. Most of them, by the way, come from the USA and Germany. 😉
Whenever a certain new funding milestone is reached, the next one currently being at 27 million dollars, a new game aspect will be implemented, which has already been somewhat introduced to the interested parties beforehand. A very transparent principle that has obviously attracted many willing funding fans.
Small Conclusion:
We believe Star Citizen should definitely set new MMO standards and fulfill long-awaited dreams for many sci-fi fans. The official trailer certainly whets the appetite for more!
