On Star Wars Day, May 4th, Cloud Imperium released a new video for the upcoming space game Star Citizen, featuring an old acquaintance in the cockpit of a fighter.
The person in question is Mark “Luke Skywalker” Hamill. He takes on the role of Lieutenant Commander Steve “Old Man” Colton in the single-player version of the space game, Squadron 42, who will play an important role in the story. This continues a tradition between the actor and Chris Roberts, as Mark Hamill already appeared in Wing Commander 3 to 5. In parts 3 and 4, he even portrayed the hero Christopher Blair, who played a minor role in part 5, yet it was still very important for the story.
Mark Hamill makes a splash
In the latest developer video “Around the Verse,” Mark Hamill appears at the end as “Old Man,” issuing commands and complaining in the cockpit. It’s clearly visible how motion capturing provides realistic facial animations. Currently, it is still unclear when we will see more of Squadron 42. A release date for the single-player campaign is also not yet known.
Development on Star Citizen is progressing
The video also shows what the team is currently working on for Star Citizen. This includes, for example, the damage model on the ships. If a ship is damaged in battle, you can see this immediately, for example, when wings fall off. Work is also being done on animations, server technology, and many other areas. Even though the development of Star Citizen is making significant progress, it is currently still uncertain when the game will be released.
