Cloud Imperium Games released Patch 2.6.2 for the alpha of the space online game Star Citizen and introduces the Mega Map feature.
With the latest update 2.6.2, an important step is taken towards the persistent universe of Star Citizen. The Mega Map feature introduces a new method of object streaming. Object container streaming preloads important elements or generates them through streaming.
This leads to significantly reduced loading times between the game modes – space action and shooter. Ultimately, there should actually be no loading times in Star Citizen. In the later persistent universe, there will be smooth transitions between space battles and walking on planets and stations.

New Ship, New Sale – Drake Buccaneer
Additionally, the patch brings a number of bug fixes and improves the network code. New is the heavily armed combat ship Drake Buccaneer. The ship is best suited for quick and hard attacks, but less for prolonged battles. To celebrate the introduction of the new spacecraft, there is currently a sale at the fictional manufacturer Drake Interplanetary.
Star Citizen: When is Update 3.0 coming?
The next big update 3.0 is on the horizon, but there is currently no schedule for it. Version 3.0 is expected to introduce procedurally generated planets where you can land and walk around. However, there are currently rumors that such a feature could be introduced before Update 3.0, allowing you to enter some moons.
These rumors are supported by a statement from Chris Roberts, founder of Cloud Imperium, who said that the entire team is currently reviewing and planning past and future updates.
Star Citizen is thus gradually making progress, step by step. Players are especially looking forward to version 3.0 and the single-player spin-off Squadron 42. However, when these will be released is currently still unknown.
