After a player hopelessly waits for a “friend” in Pokémon GO, he finally gets the perfect opportunity to find justice – and luck is completely on his side.
What is the player reporting about? The player and Reddit user keepz2015 shows on Reddit a rather valuable catch in Pokémon GO, a Shiny Latios. However, what makes this Pokémon even more special is the background of how he got the Shiny.
Through a remote raid pass, he joined the raid of an in-game “friend” (the quotation marks were chosen by the player himself) who refuses to send or open the last gift.
Players do this so that they can use a Lucky Egg before becoming “best friends” to maximize the experience points earned, which Coping_Alternative also explains in the comments on Reddit. They often wait so long to get enough XP for a level-up at the right moment, purely for their own advantage.
As the supposed “friend” has already reached level 50, the current maximum level, it is very likely that he wants to keep the player waiting with the other gifts until the update arrives, which will allow players to level up to 80. However, the player is not interested in this at all and does not want to be seen as a means to an end.

How did the player, in his own words, “find justice”? Keepz2015 was able to catch a Shiny Latios in the raid of the selfish friend, but that’s not all. When another player points out that he should just unfriend him now (numbrronefan via Reddit), keepz2015 reports that he has already done that and thus denies him all advantages he could have gained through him.
This way, he also forfeits his own XP, which he would have presumably received for the new level update on October 15, 2025, but it was absolutely worth it to him.
What does the community say about this? The community celebrates the player’s actions. They understand the player’s frustration and find the decision absolutely justified, even a bit funny.
“Niiiice. On top of the win, an accomplishment,” writes MousePuzzleheaded333 (via Reddit), and Dark_lord_601 is also excited: “Dude, that’s evil… I love it” (via Reddit).
Other players wonder why he didn’t unfriend him earlier because he is “definitely saving him for the level 80 grind” (Good-Improvement9181 via Reddit), but the player still had hope: “I get that, but I’m level 49. Help someone with a lower level!” (keepz2015 via Reddit).
And indeed, another player recognized through keepz2015’s experience how to deal with such friends. Alphawolfdog reports of a friend who has been leaving him hanging with the last gift for almost 2 years, even though he plays daily (via Reddit). After keepz2015’s last advice (“Oh man, DELETE”), he was also able to part with this burden.
The selfish friend of the player, as can be seen from the experiences of other players, is not an isolated case. There are probably enough people who will also wait until October 15 to get as many XP as possible and as quickly as possible.
