The user warns against using the text chat of Battlefield 6, writing: “I was set up and am now banned for 168 hours. Someone in the chat asked about the event in China with the guy in front of the tank, I responded with ‘Tiananmen Square’ and I was punished.”
168 hours equals 7 days. The player is therefore apparently banned from playing Battlefield 6 for a week.
Why does this lead to a ban? The user attached a screenshot to his post on Reddit that reveals EA’s rationale for the ban. It states: “Inappropriate reference – Violence and tragic events.”.
The described incident refers to the so-called Tiananmen Massacre on June 4, 1989, in China. The Chinese government suppressed a student demonstration at Tiananmen Square in Beijing using military force. As the Federal Agency for Civic Education states, the human rights organization “Amnesty International” estimates that up to 3,000 people were victims, while the Chinese government claims about 300 dead (via bpb.de).
A detailed explanation of why the simple mention of the square without mentioning the event constitutes an “inappropriate reference” is not shown in the user’s screenshot.
