Space Marine 2 gets a new heroic champion, but strict Warhammer fans complain about a detail

The developers of Space Marine 2 have presented a new champion. This one belongs to the most heroic legion of the human empire, but a decision is causing outrage among hardcore fans.

Who is the new champion? The new champion is a member of the Salamanders, the 18th legion of the human empire. In the very dark lore of Warhammer 40k, they stand out for their compassion and heroism.

The Salamander champion is a sniper who will be available in both PvE and PvP. The developers have not yet revealed when exactly he will appear. However, one detail is already provoking strong reactions.

Class of the new champion causes discontent

What are people complaining about? Passionate Warhammer fans are outraged that the Salamander is a sniper. Many believe that this class does not fit the order at all, as stated in the associated community post on community.focus-entmt.com.

• Acebaur: “Sniper is one of the worst decisions for Sallies. Destroyer or Tactical would be much better, it’s literally the order that loves melta weapons!”
• CtC_Gaming: “[…] making the Sally a sniper… with a bolt sniper skin (not even the las fusil) just makes no sense. If this continues, we’ll get a tactical from the Blood Angels (because if the Raven Guard isn’t a sniper, she MUST be an attacker).”
• KingBjorn: “A Salamander sniper? Very disappointing, unless you give the class a melta lol.”

The developers themselves admit that a champion of the Raven Guard as a sniper would be more fitting – but also reveal that they have other plans for this order. That leaves the Destroyer, for which there is already a champion, and the Tactical, which is also planned elsewhere. However, since they wanted to have a Salamander in the game, it became the sniper.

Were there any other announcements? In addition to the new champion, there should also be fresh content for PvP and PvE in 2025 as well as an expansion of the Battle Barge. Community events are also set to continue in 2025.
