Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has received a free update in the form of a texture pack. This makes for an even nicer game, but there is a catch.
What kind of update is this? Developer Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment are currently frustrating Space Marine 2 fans with nerfs, but they are also giving them a free graphical update. Specifically, it is a texture pack for a sharp 4K experience.
The installation is quite simple. The update can be downloaded on PC via Steam or Epic Games. Sounds good, right? Well, there is a rather significant problem that players with weaker hardware may face.
Clear some space on your hard drive
What is the problem? While the update makes Space Marine 2 shine in a more beautiful light, it comes at a price. First, there is the required storage space on your hard drive. While the entire base game only requires “just” 75 GB, this number is increased to a whopping 160 GB by the texture pack.
Depending on how much free space you have on your hard drive, this could lead to difficulties. But it is a problem that can be managed. The actual system requirements, however, are a different story.
The new texture pack recommends the following minimum requirements for the Ultra preset:
- Requires a 64-bit processor and a 64-bit operating system
- Operating System: Windows 10 (at least 1903) / 11 64-bit
- Processor: 12 CPU cores, AMD Ryzen 9 5900X / Intel Core i7-12700
- RAM: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: 12 GB VRAM, AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT / Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080
- DirectX: Version 12
- Storage: 160 GB available storage space
However, this only results in 30 FPS. The recommended settings for 60 FPS are even higher:
- Requires a 64-bit processor and a 64-bit operating system
- Operating System: Windows 10 (at least 1903) / 11 64-bit
- Processor: 12 CPU cores, AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D / Intel Core i9-14900K
- RAM: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: 12 GB VRAM, AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX / Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER
- DirectX: Version 12
- Storage: 160 GB available storage space
Anyone who can meet these requirements can look forward to an even nicer game. All others will have to be content with the old graphics. Space Marine 2 will continue to be supported by the developers in the coming period, aside from this optional graphic update. Among other things, with new weapons, missions, and enemies: Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will bring the biggest enemy of the game yet in the next update
