For Soulframe, the “Preludes 11” update has now been released, making the fantasy RPG from the creators of Warframe even bigger, better, and more beautiful.
What do I need to know about Preludes 11? The new update for the current test version of Soulframe was actually supposed to be released in September. However, the release of Preludes 11 only happened last week, with all testers who have access looking forward to the following highlight updates:
- The tale of the corrupted bear Bromius and the associated pact for Bromius
- New weapons like a type of cleaver or the weapons of the Mockery enemies (which also come in an armored variant with the update)
- The new dungeon Neath’uns
- In regions with a level of 10 or higher, you can encounter 8 new sub-bosses that drop valuable loot
- New armor sets: 3 starter armors for beginners and the Bromius armor
- Introduction of runes and totems to provide characters with more opportunities for advancement and strength enhancement, as well as to modify their playstyle
- The old totems return as talismans that you can use to enhance your virtues and defense
- Health recovery that will allow melee fighters to regain a portion of lost health through counterattacks within a short time window
- Customization options for character appearance via transmog or dyes associated with the witch Verminia that require new resources
- New attack maneuvers for daggers
- Balancing adjustments for enemies (making the beginning a bit more difficult) and the loot distribution
- Improved starter experience for new players
- New skins for the sparrows
- Graphically, Soulframe receives further improvements for lighting effects, environment textures, and more
The complete patch notes with images of the new armor sets, weapons, and other updates can be found on soulframe.com.
Despite alpha status, Soulframe captivates
How is the community reacting to the new update? Although the developers distributed significantly more access to Soulframe a few months ago, the fantasy RPG is still in pre-alpha and is therefore still quite far from a final release. The new update doesn’t change that much.
Nevertheless, Preludes 11 excites many testers. For example, the graphical improvements have received a lot of praise. Sifernos1 writes on Reddit: “Digital Extremes has a game in beta phase that’s more beautiful than most AAA games. And it’s free…”
In response to the remark that it is even a pre-alpha, Sifernos1 adds that this would actually support his point.
However, some players admit that the recent update has also significantly increased the hardware requirements. Toughbiscuit explains on Reddit: “Unfortunately, the additional foliage and similar things have reached the limits of my PC, so I had to downgrade to ‘medium’.”
Tidezen praises the entire patch on Reddit: “OMG, this is a huge update, so many new things. I haven’t played in months, so I’m really behind and don’t even know what half of this stuff means, but I can’t wait to try it out.”
What else did the developers reveal? During the recent developer stream on Twitch, the focus was not only on the new update but also on a new founder program that will start soon and grant early access to the game for other interested parties, as well as exclusive rewards.
What do I need to know about Soulframe? The new project from the creators of Warframe was first introduced at TennoCon 2022 and is currently in an early alpha testing phase, for which access is regularly distributed. The developers themselves describe Soulframe as a “Free2Play open-world adventure” with a fantasy setting.
The gameplay shown so far resembles – in terms of atmosphere and combat – quite a bit the Souls games from From Software. However, the developers insist that despite the name, there are many more differences than similarities. The world is not as dark, the combat is not as punishing. Soulframe is supposed to be even less hardcore than Warframe.
Due to the multiplayer content and Warframe roots, the term MMO comes up repeatedly with this action title. The developers themselves avoid the MMO designation. That there is a good reason for this is shown in our hands-on report: I played approximately 25 hours of Soulframe and can tell you: This is not an MMO
