Sony has shown the first impression of the PS5 Pro on YouTube: Included are the release date and the price. The price, in particular, surprises many.
Sony presented the new PS5 Pro on September 10, 2024. In addition to numerous technical details, two other important things were also mentioned: the official release date and the price. The price is particularly noteworthy.
When will the PS5 Pro be released? The PS5 Pro will be officially released worldwide on November 7, 2024, including in Germany.
How much will the PS5 Pro cost? The price for the PS5 Pro is 699 US dollars or 799 euros. The price is without a Blu-ray drive, which must be purchased separately (119.99 €).
Thus, the new console is significantly more expensive than its predecessor. Earlier this year, Sony raised the price of the PS5 significantly: You pay 549 euros for the standard PS5 with a drive. The additional cost for the Pro model is 250 euros.
When can you pre-order the PS5? Starting from September 26, 2024, either directly from Sony or from participating retailers. Sony has not yet announced which retailers will participate.
What is included in the package? A DualSense Wireless Controller and a copy of Astro’s Playroom are pre-installed with every purchase of the PS5 Pro. The PS5 Pro is available as a console without discs, although the disc drive for the PS5 can be purchased separately. The price is 119.99 euros and works similarly to the Slim version of the PS5.
Three points to be important for the PS5 Pro
Larger, more powerful GPU: The performance of the installed graphics unit (GPU) is said to significantly increase. The chip is expected to be 67% larger, and the RAM should be 28% faster. Overall, there should be up to 45% more performance.
Improved ray tracing performance: The performance in ray tracing is expected to improve significantly. Cerny mentions in the video the double or even triple performance of the old PS5 model.
Upscaling with AI: PC gamers know this as FSR or DLSS, with which games are upscaled on PC. On the PS5 Pro, there will be PSSR, which stands for “PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution” and aims to achieve a similar goal: The game is calculated in low resolution and then upscaled with AI.
Are there any concrete facts yet? No, not yet. Cerny only talks about percentage numbers and improvements, without specifically naming the new hardware. Therefore, we still do not know what type of chip is in the PS5 Pro.
