Sony releases a major update for the PS5. It includes a whole range of features that have been requested and desired by many.
Sony has introduced its major update 8.0 for the PS5. It includes several convenience features:
- Support for a second controller in a game.
- Dolby Atmos in games with 3D audio.
- Improved options for joining a group of players.
- 3D audio for “Dolby Atmos” compatible audio devices.
- Mute the PS5 beep.
- New search function for games in your library/collection.
You can also install larger SSDs in your PS5 starting today. This means you have more space for your games.
Sony brings an update for your SSD, you can now install more games
What is changing? Starting today, you can install m.2 SSDs with up to 8 TB in your PS5. Previously, only m.2 SSDs with up to 4 TB were possible. Theoretically, you can now install double the number of games on your console.
However, the prices for such SSDs are rather daunting:
- For a Sabrent M.2 SSD with 8 TB, you currently pay around 1,200 Euros on Amazon.
- For a Corsair MP600 PRO with 8 TB, you pay around 910 Euros, but prices may also exceed the 1,000 Euro mark.
So if you really want to maximize the storage space from your console, you currently have to spend a lot of money for such models. It is clear that games are getting larger and very few players are prepared for it, but 8 TB is definitely not yet the norm in gaming.
If you have a “2-TB” model installed in your PS5, it should still be completely sufficient.
