According to leaks, Sony will soon introduce new headphones for the PS5. MeinMMO editor Benedikt Schlotmann could see a big dream come true. After all, Sony is no stranger when it comes to headphones.
According to rumors and leaks, Sony, the company behind PlayStation, is developing a new wireless headset and in-ear headphones for the PS5. This is reported by Insider-Gaming.com. Both are expected to be released between April 2023 and March 2024, expanding the portfolio around the PS5.
So far, there are no official in-ear headphones for the PS5, and other devices can only be connected to the console via workarounds or with their own adapter. However, the leak that Sony is working on in-ear headphones for the PS5 gives me hope.
Sony already has a pair of the best in-ear headphones on the market
What does the market look like currently? With the “Sony WF-1000XM4,” Sony already has one of the best products in the in-ear category on the market, with only three other major competitors, Bose, Samsung, and Sennheiser, left in the premium price segment.
Sony has built a strong image in the headphone sector in the past. For example, colleagues from Hifi.de praise the current WF-1000XM4 for their dynamic, balanced, and very fine sound. The colleagues from GameStar also count the in-ears among the best you can currently buy.

What would I wish for? If the developers now incorporate exactly these strengths into a product for the PS5, Sony would fulfill a big dream for me. Because really good in-ear headphones that are also fully compatible with the PS5 are currently still missing.
The only sensible alternative right now is the EPOS GTW 270 Hybrid (for testing), which offers its own wireless adapter.
Other in-ears, like the Sennheiser Momentum 3 TW or Bose’s QuietComfort Earbuds II, are really great but do not offer the compatibility I would like for the PS5. With official headphones for the PS5, I could now get in-ear headphones that could provide really good sound.
If Sony ultimately decides to develop “only” a gaming product that doesn’t reach the excellent sound quality of its own products.
