Sony has revealed new information about its new products for the PS5. Included is a new gaming headset, which receives several detail improvements.
Sony had already presented several new devices for the PS5 a few months ago, including a gaming handheld, in-ear headphones, and other accessories for impaired players.
Now they have not only published further information on this, but also presented another gaming headset. The “Pulse Elite” could significantly improve the sound on the PS5.
The new “Pulse Elite” headset offers new audio technology and new wireless connectivity
Old design and same haptics: At first glance, the new “Pulse Elite” does not look much different from the “Pulse 3D” gaming headset, which Sony already sells for the PS5. The design is still very similar and there should be little change in comfort. You can read the review of the “Pulse 3D” gaming headset directly here on MeinMMO.
But especially on the inside of the device, new details are packed.
New audio technology: Sony incorporates planar magnetic drivers, also known as magnetostatic drivers, in its “Pulse Elite” gaming headset. They are supposed to offer significantly better sound than the normal drivers found in most gaming headsets.
Sony itself explains that it is one of the first companies in the world that wants to offer wireless headsets with planar magnetic drivers for the mass market. Whether this will ultimately succeed will be shown by the first tests of the gaming headset.
Most gaming products primarily use dynamic drivers, which are very cheap to produce but can still provide good sound. Planar magnetic drivers are more expensive but generally offer better sound quality.
Above them are electrostatic drivers in quality, which are, however, very expensive and also quite sensitive.
New wireless connection: Also new is PlayStation Link. This is a new wireless connection standard for devices connected to the PS5. According to Sony, it should offer particularly low latency, lossless audio, and a faster connection to the PS5. An adapter is already included with the headset, but the adapter for PlayStation Link will also be sold separately.
So far, the Pulse-3D-headset has relied on a wireless connection with a dongle.
What does the new gaming headset cost? Sony states 149.99 Euro for the new gaming headset. This puts the price 50 Euro higher than the “Pulse 3D,” which is already available in stores.
What is known about the other products?
- The handheld named “PlayStation Portal” will be available for 219.99 Euro.
- Sony’s in-ear headphones for the PS5 under the name “Pulse Explore” are expected to cost 199.99 Euro.
