At the Apple Event, a number of new devices were recently introduced, including an Apple Watch and a new iPhone. However, many Apple fans are complaining about the new device. Many users feel that there are no real improvements and ‘innovations.’
Apple, like every other major tech company, presents a whole range of new devices each year, often with a big show. In its keynote in September 2023, Apple introduced three new models:
- iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro
- Apple Watch Ultra 2
- Apple Watch Series 9
However, this time many users are dissatisfied with the new devices presented. Some are loudly complaining that nothing has changed in the Apple universe for years. Innovation died with Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple.
But is it really as dramatic as some claim?
Users complain: no new product, just slight adjustments to the predecessor
What are people complaining about? People claim that Apple’s new devices have offered too little innovation for years. There are only minimal improvements and adjustments, and there are good reasons lacking to buy the next model. On Twitter, someone puts it in harsh words:
Apple’s innovative power died with Steve Jobs. Since 2011, almost everything is a 0.5-1° improvement of existing products – except for the watch, which was inevitable.
Another person explains that he is an absolute Apple fan but will skip the iPhone 15:
What do others say? Some state that some users have been complaining about the lack of innovation at Apple for years, yet Apple has not gone bankrupt and earns billions of euros each year with its devices. On reddit, someone explains: ‘Sure, some people want more innovation, but that has been completely irrelevant to the company’s success so far.’
The problem is also, others say, that many users expect a huge technological leap every time. After all, you do not have to buy a new phone or new notebook every year:
If I had an iPhone 14, I would NOT upgrade. However, I have an iPhone XS and will definitely perform an upgrade. The differences between the two are large enough to justify it.
Stop expecting revolutionary upgrades every one or two years, or just stop buying a new phone every one or two years.
Is this discussion completely new? No, because in other tech areas, the same developments are discussed. For example, AMD, Intel, and Nvidia also release new products every year, and not every graphics card promises sensational performance gains.
- Both Radeon RX 6000 and RTX 3000 offered a significant performance jump compared to the old generation. Sometimes, the graphics cards offered double the performance of older GPUs.
- In the current generation (RX 7000 and RTX 4000), the jump compared to the last generation was significantly smaller. Here, AMD and Nvidia made rather small adjustments.
Here, a similar discussion is held among gamers, whether an RTX 4090 for 1,500 euros is even worth it, when it will already be outdated next year. However, many gamers do not upgrade every year, but only every 3 or 4 years and then buy hardware that is sufficient for a longer period.
More about Apple: A young woman deceived elderly people out of their savings to buy Apple products. It’s about more than 150,000 euros. She has now been caught and has to go to prison for 2 years.
