Space Marine 2 is likely to be the highlight of this year for many Warhammer fans, but it won’t be released until September. A version has appeared online that is already fully playable – with a few limitations. Bitter for the publisher and developers, but the few players who are already playing it seem quite satisfied.
What kind of game is this?
- Space Marine 2 is the sequel to the acclaimed shooter set in the dystopian world of Warhammer 40,000. You play as a genetically engineered superhuman wielding absurdly powerful weapons and heavy armor, fighting against space bugs and running mushrooms (or: Orks).
- The sequel was announced back in 2021, and since then, fans have been waiting for Part Two.
- In June 2021, there was finally gameplay that impressed immediately. Now Space Marine 2 is playable – even though it shouldn’t be.
Here you can see the official gameplay:
This is the leak: Space Marine 2 is actually set to be released on September 9, 2024. However, a playable version appeared in mid-July: The dev version has been leaked, and some players have already downloaded it, for example, via Russian torrent sites.
According to Insider-Gaming.com, the news about the leak first appeared on 4chan. This version is dated June 20, just before publisher Focus Entertainment announced the gold status (via X).
Reports suggest that the version is nearly fully playable. Only a few placeholders are still present.
Space Marine 2 has quite spontaneously canceled the beta, making the leak the only way to test the game in advance. However, we strongly advise against downloading this version, as the risk of picking up malware through this unauthorized method is high.
“Buy the game, support Saber Interactive”
Gameplay has been appearing on YouTube since the leak, but it usually doesn’t stay online for long. What has been seen so far, however, looks like a solid Warhammer game with lots of chainsaw action, strong graphics, and plenty of enemy slaughter.
Players also seem quite satisfied with the game. In the comments of one of the videos, for instance, it says: “The game is fun” and “Good game” (via YouTube). More detailed reviews are not available yet. One of the players who uploaded gameplay says, however, that with his video he wants to encourage people to buy the game and support the developers.
While the dev build is complete, it is still burdened with some bugs. For example, there are crashes or placeholders in the options and tutorial. However, this is not an official version meant for play.
How good Space Marine 2 will actually be, we will likely only know for sure in September. From then on, you can also form your own official impression of the game. Space Marine 2 will be released for PS5, Xbox, and PC. And even if you’re not into pumped-up superhumans, the game might be worth it for you: Space Marine 2 looks like a good co-op shooter – even if you’re not a Warhammer fan
