The official beta of Black Desert on Xbox One has started! Players can enjoy the sandbox MMORPG on the console and test the game mechanics. We show you how.
Fans of Black Desert have been waiting for the beta launch on Xbox One for a while. However, those who want to participate in the beta need to overcome a few hurdles.
Update of 11/12/2018: The beta on Xbox One has ended.
How to Play the Beta
Beta only in English: According to the official announcement on the Black Desert Xbox website, only players whose consoles are set to “North America Region” can participate. Luckily, the region settings can be changed on the Xbox One.

Change Your Region: Navigate left on the home screen and open the Xbox Guide. Select Settings -> All Settings. Then open the “Language and Location” tab. There you can change the region of your console under “Location”. Then select “US” under Region.
If Black Desert does not appear in the Xbox Store after changing the region, you need to launch the SmartGlass app on your phone or tablet and set the region there to “US” as well. Simply select the option “Use Console Region”. If this method doesn’t work either, add the game to your account via mobile.
Important: Changing your console’s region will also change the available content in the Microsoft Store.
Download the Black Desert Beta on Xbox
Download via Xbox Store: Open the Xbox Store on your Xbox One after you have changed the region settings and search for “Black Desert.” You can then download the game. The download is 24 GB in size.
Once the game has been added to your library, you should restart the console. To play the beta, you do not need to register, just download and start the game.
According to a game master of the game, no beta key is required (via BlackDesert Forum).

The beta is free. However, you need an active Xbox Live Gold membership to start Black Desert on Xbox. The language of the beta is English.
Duration of the Beta: The beta is playable from 11/8 to 11/12/2018 at 9:59 PM our time.
Can I play the beta on PS4/Switch? Currently, Black Desert is only playable on Xbox One. A version for the PS4 is at least planned. However, it is supposed to be released after the Xbox launch.
With a release on the Switch, developer Pearl Abyss has also been contemplating.
The Beta Offers Plenty of Content
What is there to do in the beta? The beta allows players to catch a small glimpse of the world of Black Desert.
- 6 classes are playable. The Berserker, the Ranger, the Sorceress, the Warrior, the Witch, and the Wizard.
- The level cap is level 40. The powerful Awakening abilities are unlocked only at level 56.
- Most life skills can be tried out in the beta. These include collecting, processing, cooking, alchemy, and fishing.
- Players can explore the regions of Balenos and Serendia.
- Many different events will take place during the beta. These events are conducted by game masters and usually last about an hour.
Can I keep my progress? Created characters and their levels will be deleted after the beta ends. However, you will receive character cards for playing the beta, which you can exchange for items. If you fully “fill” the character cards to 100%, you will receive items when Black Desert officially launches on Xbox One.
