In Outriders there is a nasty bug causing affected players to lose all their loot. The developers have already responded. We show you the current status of the problem.
This is currently happening: It is basically the worst thing that can happen in a loot shooter: You get kicked out of the game and upon restarting, all your loot is gone. Many players in Outriders are experiencing this, sharing their frustrations in the Outriders subreddit.
The developers from People Can Fly have already addressed the issue and are working on a solution. We show you what you can do in the meantime.
Bug steals your loot – Here’s how you might avoid it
This is what players show: There are numerous pictures of empty inventories on reddit. Players have actually lost everything and some are left without a single weapon. All the hours of gameplay before have essentially been nullified.
This is what the developers say about it: The problem is at the top of the list of known issues in Outriders (via reddit). There, the developers report on the current state of the game and how it will proceed.
People Can Fly states that they are currently trying to stabilize the servers to minimize crashes that cause loot theft. After stabilization, the developers want to report on how they plan to get affected players back on their feet.
It is mentioned that they are considering a one-to-one method so that each player receives exactly the loot they lost. However, this would take longer. Alternatively, they suggest “to perform a large-scale, one-time recovery event through our backend.” Basically, every player would receive back what they had in their inventory before the time of recovery.
What to do if you are affected? If you have become a victim of this nasty bug, you should contact the Outriders support. Your problem will be at least registered, ensuring a quicker resolution when addressing the issue. Take a screenshot of your empty inventory so you can back up your claim.
Has this bug occurred before? A similar bug already happened in the demo of Outriders. At that time, Outriders promised a recovery event where all items with “Legendary” rarity would be restored.
So, it is not the first time that players’ inventories have been wiped. The developers therefore know how to handle it.
Can the problem be avoided? A solution that works 100% does not seem to exist. Players report that most crashes are related to coop parties. The reddit user kwokie shares in detail how the bug occurred for him (via reddit):
- He joined a random public game.
- The host was AFK and kicked him when he returned.
- knowie was thrown back to the lobby and joined a new open game.
- There he was then naked and the crash occurred.
The user urges all players not to leave their games “open” if they do not want to play coop with others. He suspects that the error is related to entering another player’s lobby.
Several players point out that currently it’s better to go solo and avoid random coop rounds. People Can Fly would presumably restore the lost loot, but you still don’t want to take any risks.
We at MeinMMO cannot confirm whether avoiding coop rounds can prevent all crashes, but it certainly does not hurt to focus more on solo rounds in the coming days.
When might a solution be expected? This is still unclear. A release often goes chaotically, so developers are working hard on solutions. Depending on how complicated the solution for the server crashes is, the fix could take longer.
