The development studio Hi-Rez has finished its work on Smite Rivals. The game looked suspiciously like the popular mobile game “Clash Royale.”
At the Hi-Rez Expo in Atlanta, the developers of the games Smite and Paladins presented the new game “Smite Rivals.” The reactions were: It really looks a lot like Clash Royale.
Cautiously one might say: Smite Rivals is similar to “Clash Royale.” More cynical voices referred to it less differentiatingly as a “Clash Royale” clone. No matter how one puts it: The parallels between Smite Rivals and Clash Royale were obvious.
Clash Royale is considered the new hot stuff – Hi-Rez, however, is going in a different direction
Clash Royale is a currently popular mobile game that mixes tower defense and collectible card concepts into a lucrative mix. It is considered the next big thing in the booming mobile market, colloquially referred to as the “new hot stuff.”
It seemed to many that Hi-Rez wanted a piece of the growing and delicious cake. Smite Rivals was supposed to be released for PC and mobile.
But Hi-Rez will now go in a different direction. The US site Kotaku has learned from anonymous sources that Hi-Rez has pulled the “third party studio” that was supposed to develop Smite Rivals off the project.
In response to inquiries, Hi-Rez stated: The work on Smite Rivals is at least temporarily finished. Hi-Rez told Kotaku that they decided this week to suspend work on Smite Rivals. They still find the concept exciting, but the game would have needed a lot of work before its release. Instead, Hi-Rez wants to focus on Smite Tactics within the Smite franchise. It shows good numbers.
Smite Tactics is a turn-based strategy game in the world of Smite – we introduced it in the linked article.
