In SMITE, some significant changes are being made. The login bonus is being removed, and active items can no longer be purchased.
Active Items for Everyone! For Free!
In SMITE, like in almost all major MOBAs, there is a wide gap in the skill level of different players. According to the developers, this results in a large portion of players never buying an active item. Although these items usually do not provide attributes, they can be used at the push of a button to remove stuns or teleport the character a few meters. Instead of completely removing these active items from the game, they are being given away!
Each god can choose one of the items, which will be renamed “Jewels,” at level 1 and another at level 12. The jewels will no longer be upgradeable; they will thus have their full strength immediately, although this may be slightly weaker than before. The developers hope this will lead to much more frequent use and ultimately a better gaming experience for newcomers.
Daily Quests
“Goodbye” is also said to the system of daily login rewards. This has led to frustration for many players. You must log in every day to earn valuable jewels over the course of a week. If you miss a day, for example, because you weren’t at your PC, your progress resets, and you must start again.

Instead, a quest system is being introduced, similar to what is already known from Heroes of the Storm. Depending on the account level, players will receive different numbers of tasks. Examples include “Complete 3 games as a mage” or “Win 2 games as a Hindu god.” Jewels will then be obtained through a meta-quest, that is, a mission that requires players to complete a certain number of other quests. The great advantage of this is that progress will never be reset, and players are not punished for not logging in for a day.
The discussed changes will be implemented in the coming weeks with a new patch. There is no fixed date for this yet.
