The year 2016 brings a new pantheon to SMITE. The Japanese goddess Amaterasu leads the way!
The Land of the Rising Sun
Over the years, the collection of gods in SMITE has grown larger, and although the existing pantheons are far from being exhausted, the community has long wanted to see an expansion. In 2016, this feedback is addressed, starting in January with the first Japanese goddess, Tiramisu Amaterasu.
Amaterasu is considered the supreme goddess of Shinto belief, embodying both light and the sun. She was born from the eye of the god Izanagi and was destined to take over the rule of the heavens alongside her brother Susanoo no Mikoto.
However, her brother brought nothing but disaster, prompting her to hide away in a cave and plunging the world into darkness. Only the dance of the goddess Ama-no-Uzume lured her out of the cave and strengthened her resolve to no longer abandon the world.
Amaterasu, the Shining Light
In SMITE, Amaterasu is a warrior who mainly supports her teammates. Let’s take a look at her abilities:
- The passive ability Illuminating Strike applies a negative aura to enemies when Amaterasu hits them with 3 basic attacks. The aura increases the damage taken by all enemies by 10% and lasts for 5 seconds. A maximum of 3 auras can be active at the same time.
- Divine Presence is a permanent, friendly aura with 2 different modes. In “Valor” mode, it grants allied gods magical and physical power, while in “Benevolence” mode, it provides movement speed instead. Activating the ability switches between the two auras and heals Amaterasu for a medium amount over 4 seconds.

- The mirror spell Heavenly Reflection reduces the damage Amaterasu takes for 5 seconds. During this time, the mirror charges with energy when Amaterasu attacks or takes damage. After 5 seconds, or when the ability is activated again, Amaterasu hurls the mirror straight ahead, dealing medium damage. If the mirror is fully charged, the damage effect is doubled.
- The Glorious Charge silences all enemies in front of Amaterasu for 1 second before she charges forward, passing all minions and stopping at the first enemy god, dealing medium damage.
- The Ultimate Dazzling Offensive initiates a combo over 3 strikes. The first strike only deals damage, the second strike slows and deals 20% more damage. The third hit stuns the opponent for 2 seconds and deals 40% more damage than the first strike. If any of the attacks miss, the combo is broken, although the strikes can be spread across different enemies.
